Biography
Busher Kanj Abu Saleh بُشر كنج أبو صالح is a composer and sound artist from Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights. His work focuses on electroacoustic music, blending elements of orchestral, electronic, and environmental soundscapes.
With a deep interest in the relationship between composers and their sonic environment, Busher explores how natural, urban, and cultural sounds shape the creative process and influence musical expression.
Busher holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition and was honored to make the Dean’s List for his research on music composition and the sonic environment, evaluated by Stanford University. His thesis examines how individuals and communities shape and are shaped by their soundscapes to reflect unique identities and experiences. This academic work serves as the foundation for his ongoing creative projects.
In 2020, he won the Composition Contest at the University of Haifa, with his work performed by the Haifa Orchestra. His collaboration with artist Lawrence Abu Hamdan on the project Zifzafa has further highlighted his approach to sound, contributing field recordings and composing music. Lawrence and Busher have performed Zifzafa live in Palestine, Dubai, The Netherlands, Tunisia, and Paris at the Festival d’Automne. The project continues its international journey with performances scheduled in Switzerland, France, the UK, and other countries.
In 2026, Busher participated in the Sonic Acts Biennale in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and held an artist residency at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France, as part of the project “Sounds of Places” by The Wonder Cabinet. He is also commissioned to compose and perform a new work at the Barbican Theatre in London, UK, premiering in September 2026.
Beyond his solo compositional work, Busher has composed original scores for film, theatre, and art installations, combining his expertise in music with visual contexts.
Busher is the founder, primary composer, and guitarist of the band Hawa Dafi. Since 2011, the band has released one album, titled Essetna. He has collaborated with notable artists such as Monir Troudi, Sami Ben Said, Marthe Valle, and many others.
In 2010, Busher established ’67 Studio in the occupied Golan Heights, where he has recorded and produced music for artists including Haya Zaatry, Terez Sliman, Rasha Nahas, Toot Ard, Faraj Sliman, Darbet Shams, and Hawa Dafi.
He is also the music director and one of the organizers of the annual Golan Cultural Days Festival, celebrating art and diversity in the region. Passionate about nurturing the local music and art scene, Busher actively supports emerging artists in developing and refining their work.
